The Hororata Highland Games see 500 competitors in Scottish events including; heavy events, highland dancing, solo piping and drumming, Tug O’ War and pipe band competitions. All surrounded by a festival offering a rich tapestry of culture and tastings.

Entries are open in September for the 10th Hororata Highland Games to be held on 7th November 2020 at the Hororata Domain. 

Highland Dancing

The Hororata Highland Games hosts New Zealand’s biggest one day Highland Dancing competition. Competitors can compete in over 30 categories, including South Island and Canterbury West Coast Championships.  Read more

Heavy Championships

Strongmen and women test their athleticism, strength and skill in the traditional Highland Games Heavy events. The Heavy Events run the entire day in the centre arena and are a spectacle not to be missed.  Read more

Harraways Junior Warriors

Kids aged between 8 and 14 years old compete in the light version of the Highland Games strength events. Enter in teams of four or simply have a go on the day. Read more

Pipe Bands

The Pipe Bands take to the Piping and Drumming arena in the afternoon to perform for the judges then combine in the heart-pounding massed bands.   Read more

Solo Piping and Drums

The morning programme sees Solo Piping and Side Drumming from novice to grade D, Tenor and Bass Drumming open, intermediate and novice compete in the Piping and Drumming arena. Read more

Have A Go on the Day

The Hororata Highland Games also offers lots of Have A Go events – can you toss a Caber or Sheaf? Try Archery, race the Kilted Mile or the pie eating competition, and try your hand at small bore shooting. You can enter all on the day.  Read more
