The Heavy Events competition comprises two grades.

Oceania Heavyweight Championship

The Professional Heavy Athletes will be competing in eight disciplines, (Caber Toss, Stone Putt, Hammer Throw, Sheaf, Weight for Distance, Weight for Height, Hororata Stones and Farmers Walk)  for the Oceania Heavyweight Championship title.

The Oceania Heavyweight Championship  is an open event, not an invitational. A high level of competency is required to be competitive. Entrants must have competed at national level in Highland Games, athletics or strongman events.  The field is limited to 10 competitors; if more entries are received the first event will be an elimination event with unsuccessful competitors being moved to compete in the Amateur competition.

Amateur Heavy Championship

Competing alongside the Professional Heavy Athletes a field of amateur men and women compete for the Amateur  Heavy Championship, for those entering the sport. Competitors test themselves over five disciplines: Caber Toss, Stone Putt, Hammer Throw, Weight for Distance and Sheaf.

A detailed schedule and the Games Programme will be sent out to all entrants in October, but the schedule essentially will be:

  • 9.00am – practice session
  • 10.00am – competition commences
  • The competition will consist of four traditional Scottish Heavy events, which will include:
