Solo Piping and Drumming

The Hororata Highland Games will be run under the rules of Piping and Dancing Association of NZ, as appropriate.

Competition Details

Start Time:

Solo Piping and Drumming competitions will start at 8.45am (depending on entry numbers)
Draw for Order of Play The draw for ALL GRADES will take place in the weeks prior to the competition. Competitors will be advised of their order before the event and loaded here.

Entry Fees:

$7 per competition

Competition Format:

Solo Piping & Side Drumming:

  • Grade A MSR (minimum 4 parts each tune)
  • Grade B MSR (minimum 4 parts each tune)
  • Grade C 2/4 March (minimum 4 parts)
  • Grade D Own choice March (minimum 4 parts)
  • Novice (any age) Own choice March (minimum 2 parts)

Tenor and Bass:

  • Novice Tenor Own choice March (minimum 4 parts)
  • Novice Bass Own choice March (minimum 4 parts)
  • Intermediate Tenor 2/4 or 6/8 March (minimum 4 parts)
  • Intermediate Bass 2/4 or 6/8 March (minimum 4 parts)
  • Open Tenor MSR (minimum 4 parts each tune)
  • Open Bass MSR (minimum 4 parts each tune)

Note:

  • Solo Piping and Drumming competitions will start at 8.45am- this may change depending on entries.
  • Please be ready to play for your Grade at the specified start times in the Order of Play.
  • Some flexibility will be allowed due to Players being required to play for other soloists. Check with your Grade Marshall.

Event Canceled

The Hororata Community Trust has made the difficult decision to cancel the 11th Hororata Highland Games planned for the 6th of November 2021. The Hororata Highland Games is a significant outdoor event attracting around 10,000 people annually, and can only operate in alert level 1. Any competitors who have paid will be automatically refunded to the credit card they paid with. This could take 7 working days to show in your account.
