The Hororata Community Trust has made the difficult decision to cancel the 11th Hororata Highland Games planned for the 6th of November 2021. The Hororata Highland Games is a significant outdoor event attracting around 10,000 people annually, and can only operate in alert level 1.

It is not a decision we take lightly, but our community has been through a lot recently with floods, wind and snow, and given the current uncertainty with COVID alert levels we have needed to make a firm decision now to cancel the Games. The Trust, first and foremost, is here for the wellbeing of our community and in uncertain times we need to give certainty.

All tickets that have been sold through Eventfinda will be offered full refunds. Ticket holders will also have the option to donate their purchase to the Hororata Community Trust and in return will be offered a 50% discount off tickets to the next Hororata Highland Games. Any donations will go towards the work the Trust does to support its rural community. Click here to learn more about the Hororata Community Trust.

Competitors and stallholders will be refunded.

Please note:

Eventfinda is our exclusive ticketing partner for all pre-sales and proceeds will be held in Trust until the event. If COVID 19 affects the running of the Hororata Highland Games, refunds will be available for tickets purchased. The Hororata Community Trust is a member of the New Zealand Event Association and we will be implementing the industry best practice guidelines at this event. This means we will have contact tracing procedures in place.

If you are unwell please do not come.

This year there will be no hard copy ticket sales through the Selwyn Libraries.

There are no family or child tickets this year as children under 16 years are free. Any children must be with a parent or guardian. Youth 16 years and over need to purchase an adult ticket.

Under an hour’s drive from Christchurch, Ashburton and Rolleston. Gates open 9am to 5.00pm.

We welcome certified self-contained vehicles on site from 12 pm Friday 5th of November and depart by 5 pm Monday 8th of November.  Enter through Gate C. A $10 per van per night donation is appreciated. We recommend you buy your tickets online prior to the event, if we sell out there will be no gate sales and only tickets holders will be able to enter the motorhome parking area. Please note there will be no access to event toilets until 9 am Saturday and they will be close 5 pm Saturday night. Please note we have written permission from the Selwyn District Council to allow this and they have stipulated vehicles must be certified self-contained. Camping in tents is not permitted. 

Please note the Hororata Highland Games is a licensed venue and BYO alcohol is not permitted.  We will be conducting bag searches at the gate.

No dogs are allowed in the venue.

There is ample FREE parking on site in a well-managed car park.
